General Motors announced from Detroit (USA) at 22:00 Tuesday 10th January
(Detroit time) that Holden will discontinue manufacturing cars and engines in Australia by the end of 2017. Engineering
operations will be reduced, too.
Commencing in 2017 Holden will be a sales company for General Motors products, including those from the former Daewoo
factory in South Korea.
The announcement did not mention when the decision to cease manufacturing in Australia was made, nor did it mention
what recommendations Holden management made to GM headquarters.
