General Motors Thailand recently achieved a new milestone for automotive industry safety, surpassing 40 million hours worked without a single working day lost. The new record reaffirmed the position of GM’s Rayong facility as the world’s safest automotive manufacturing plant.

“I congratulate everyone at GM Thailand for such an extraordinary and exemplary achievement,” said Troy Clarke, GM Group Vice President and President of GM Asia Pacific. “GM continues to lead the industry in many areas, including our commitment to safety. This record not only sets a benchmark for safety for all GM plants worldwide, but for the entire automotive industry.”

William Botwick, President - General Motors Southeast Asia Operations and President - General Motors Thailand, said: “This accomplishment proves that GM’s global goal of zero lost workdays due to injury is possible. I am extremely proud of our team at GM and Chevrolet in Thailand, which has collectively become a model for workplace safety.”

In honour of the achievement, GM Thailand hosted a celebration for the more than 3,000 employees at its Rayong plant on 8th July.

GM and its employees have made safety a priority. The automaker has actively carried out training at its Rayong plant. GM Thailand’s safety record has been recognised by the Thai government, which in May bestowed on the company the Outstanding Award for Safety, Occupational Health and Working Environment for the fifth consecutive year.

GM Thailand manufactures a range of vehicles for the domestic and global markets, including Japan, Europe and Australia. The Rayong plant currently produces the Chevrolet Optra midsize sedan and Chevrolet Colorado one-ton utility for Thailand and a one-ton utility for export under the Isuzu, Chevrolet, GMC and Holden nameplates. Every vehicle produced at GM’s Rayong plant is subject to stringent quality controls overseen by highly trained Thai engineers to ensure that world-class standards are maintained.
