Edsel Ford II with a 2006 Dearborn Deuce |
18th August, 2006
At this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, one of America's great motoring events, Ford Motor Company is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the quintessential hot rod, the ’32 Ford, also known as the “Deuce." And looking into the future of cruising, Ford is displaying and driving its Focus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle – a car that could be the most valuable and rare automobile on Woodward Avenue. Ford’s display is located at Shain Park in Birmingham (Michigan). The year 2007 marks the 75th anniversary of Ford’s breakthrough 1932 vehicles, designed by Henry Ford’s son, Edsel B. Ford. Years after their debut, the cars became popular with customisers and ushered in the hot rod era. The ’32 Ford remains the quintessential American hot rod in both its roadster and coupe forms. One of the highlights of Ford’s six-block display around Birmingham’s Shain Park is sure to be the limited edition officially licensed 75th Anniversary Dearborn Deuce. Built by Hot Rods and Horsepower LLC and autographed by Edsel B. Ford II, this roadster will be auctioned in January 2007 at the prestigious Barrett-Jackson Auction to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Where to Find Ford at the Woodward Dream Cruise Ford Motor Company and its partners will have their display surrounding Birmingham’s Shain Park on Merrill Street. Partners Represented: Ford Division is joined by Roush Performance, Saleen, Barrett-Jackson, The Ford Collection, Ford Mobility Motoring and Classic Cars and Concepts with vehicles, merchandise sales and hospitality in and around Shain Park. Car Displays: On display in the Ford area will be more than 100 cars, including 80 selected and pre-registered collector’s vehicles. Special features will include the Dearborn Deuce, a collection of classic hot rods, the 2007 Shelby GT500 and a collection of classic Shelbys, plus a display of selected cars from the Barrett-Jackson Auction. Focus Fuel Cell Drives: The Focus Fuel Cell Vehicle is on display at the Ford exhibit. Another Focus FCV will cruise Woodward on Saturday. Because of the current cost of the fuel cell technology, a car such as this Focus could cost nearly $1 million; Ford expects that the Focus FCV will be the most expensive car driving in the dream cruise on Saturday. Ford has a fleet of 30 fuel cell vehicles in several cities around the country. Entertainment in Shain Park: Ford is providing free live music in Shain Park from noon until 8 PM.
