2nd November, 2005
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) announced
yesterday that 112,631 of the Incheon-based car maker's vehicles were sold globally
in October, setting a monthly sales record for the car maker for the second
consecutive month.
Buoyed by strong demand for its products around the world, total sales for
the month climbed 40.6 percent from October 2004, when 80,127 vehicles from GM
Daewoo were sold.
Total sales in the first 10 months of 2005 grew 27.3 percent on a
year-on-year basis to 911,811 units from last year's 716,222 units.
Exports in October rose 45 percent to 103,123 units from last October's
71,095 units, exceeding 100,000 units on a monthly basis for the first time in
the company's three-year history. Strong demand for GM Daewoo products assembled
at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India, Colombia and Venezuela fueled a big
rise in KD exports to 50,774 units. This represented an increase of 80 percent
from the 28,208 units exported in the same month last year. Exports of complete
vehicles increased 22.1 percent in October 2005 to 52,349 units from last
October's 42,887 units.
GM Daewoo's domestic sales in October rose 5.3 percent to 9,508 units from
9,032 units in the same month last year. This represented an increase of 5.4
percent from September.
For the first 10 months as a whole, GM Daewoo exports rose 30.4 percent to
823,743 units from 631,545 units in the same period last year. Domestic sales in
the first 10 months increased four percent to 88,068 units from 84,677 units in
the same period last year.
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was established in 2002. It has five
manufacturing facilities in Korea as well as an assembly facility in Vietnam. GM
Daewoo products are also assembled at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India,
Colombia and Venezuela. In 2004, GM Daewoo sold over 900,000 vehicles with
exports to more than 150 countries. Imported GM products from the Cadillac and
Saab premium brands are sold in Korea through GM AutoWorld retailers.
The Daewoo Kalos arrives in Australia in December as the Holden Barina (above).
