Chrysler has enhanced its reputation with people movers by improving the recently restyled 2005 Voyager range with the introduction of an innovative Stow ‘n Go seating and storage system, featuring 256 possible seating positions and 340 litres of additional storage. Rear park assist and a people mover-first overhead rail storage system have also been added to the Voyager while ride quality has been enhanced with a 16 percent reduction in interior noise. Owners will be further comforted knowing that the Voyager has recently been awarded the maximum five-star US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety rating for the frontal impact crash test to add to it’s five-star side impact rating. Stow ‘n Go gives owners of the new 2005 Chrysler Voyager the ability to easily fold their second- and third-row seats into the floor in as little as 30 seconds with a simple one-hand operation. With the second- and third-row seats folded flat into the floor, Voyager has van like transport capacity providing space for large, awkward cargo. When the seats are up, the storage bins below offer an additional 340 litres of storage space to keep valuables, groceries or other storage out of sight and securely tucked away. “Stow ‘n Go represents yet another leapfrog for the Chrysler Group in the people mover segment,” said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Jeep Australia. “Being able to fold the second- and third-row seats into the floor offers unmatched convenience, versatility and storage, further separating Voyager from the competition,” added Jenkins. Stow ‘n Go is standard across the Voyager range which includes the extended-wheelbase SE, LX and Limited. The all wheel drive version will no longer be offered. The introduction of rear park assist and an innovative overhead rail storage system further boost Voyager’s long list of luxury appointments. The overhead rail storage system, a people mover-first, incorporates a console with three movable/removable storage bins, rear temperature controls and an optional DVD rear entertainment system. The added rear park assist system aids manoeuvring in and around parked cars and tight spaces. The system detects obstacles when reversing and uses audible warning and a rear overhead display to assist drivers. Both the overhead rail storage and rear park assist features are standard on Voyager Limited and available as a package option on the LX model. Voyager’s comprehensive equipment list includes three-row supplemental side curtain airbags, advanced multistage front air bags, ABS, V6 power, tri-zone air conditioning, seven seat capacity and available power sliding doors and lift gate. “With Stow ‘n Go, additional luxury appointments, five star frontal and side impact safety ratings and an even quieter ride, Voyager is clearly the vehicle of choice to move your precious cargo,“ said Jenkins. Despite the introduction of these value adding features Voyager’s price stays unchanged from the recent reductions which came into affect on ist January. Voyager SE retails for $55,990, Voyager LX, for $59,990 and Voyager Limited, retails for $69,990. To accomplish this, they utilised “Quiet Steel” technology, which is a visco-elastic treatment sandwiched between two steel layers. In addition to the Quiet Steel, structural ribbing and a robotically applied liquid spray-on dampener were integrated into the recessed floor design to reduce vibration, road noise and stone impingement. The liquid spray dampener provides an additional barrier to noise that would otherwise enter the passenger compartment through the floor. A new underbody structure also was designed and developed for the 2005 Chrysler Voyager. It is designed for high bending and torsional stiffness, which helps isolate suspension vibration and chatter from the passenger compartment. Other noise reductions result from a fluid-filled hydro engine mount that significantly reduces engine vibration into the front rails to help isolate engine vibration. The vehicle’s suspension control arms use tuned hydro bushings to further reduce suspension vibration, while wind noise was reduced by incorporating triple door seals, mouldeded gaskets, aerodynamically configured roof rack crossbows.
