All-New Chrysler Grand Voyager Sets a New Standard
30th March, 2008 | ||||
The all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager has an all-new interior and exterior design and more than 30 new or improved features including a reversing camera as standard across the range. Debuting for the first time is the six-speed automatic transmission that is available in Australia with both the 3.8-litre V-6 petrol and the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engines for the first time. "This is the ultimate vehicle for families and people on the go," said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Australia. "It offers the flexibility of seven seats and room for heaps of gear without sacrificing fuel economy. It epitomises travel in style and comfort." The newest seating system also makes its debut in the new Chrysler Grand Voyager – Swivel ’n Go™ offers second-row seats that swivel 180 degrees to face the third row and a removable table that installs between the two rows. Standard equipment in the Chrysler Grand Voyager is the Stow ’n Go seating and storage system, the only people mover seat system to offer both second- and third-row seats that fold into the floor. Swivel ’n Go seating will be available on all models. With both Swivel ’n Go and Stow ’n Go seating systems, Grand Voyager offers a first for the people mover segment: a one-touch power folding third-row seat. The all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager is packed with more than 30 new features including:
Chrysler Grand Voyager will be available in LX, Touring and Limited models in Australian dealerships from April 2008. Fresh Exterior Design
Designers provided a roomier feel for the all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager by widening the roof 152 millimetres, giving the beltline more rake and lowering and pulling out the sill to provide a better relationship with the tyres. The daylight opening drip line was lowered to provide a body-to-glass proportion similar to the Chrysler 300C. These new design elements result in a contemporary, tailored appearance for a stable, athletic stance on the road. Chrysler brand exterior design elements include a distinctive front end with the “face of Chrysler” grille featuring the Chrysler winged badge, quad headlamps and clean, tailored lines. Chrome accents that include the belt moulding, front and rear fascia spears, roof-rack side rails, mirror cap and door handles make the new Chrysler Grand Voyager Limited a noticeable member of the Chrysler family. The all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager will be available in a choice of colours: Clearwater Blue, Mineral Grey, Light Sandstone, Bright Silver, Modern Blue, Inferno Red, Black and Stone White. Functional and Modern Interior Design
The Swivel ’n Go seat system features second-row individual bucket seats that rotate 180 degrees to face rearward for conversational seating. A removable table fits between the second and third rows. Second-row covered storage bins and a third-row 60/40 bench seat that folds into the floor are included in the Swivel ‘n Go system. The swivel feature also allows easy access and exit for children who need to be buckled into child seats or adults who just want easier entry and exit from the second row of the vehicle. The Chrysler Grand Voyager continues to offer the industry-exclusive Stow ’n Go seating and storage system that was introduced in 2004. With the industry’s only fold into the floor second- and third-row seats, the Grand Voyager can go from seven-passenger people mover to a two-person cargo van in less than 30 seconds. Both the Swivel ’n Go and Stow ’n Go seating and storage systems are available with a people mover-first one-touch power-folding third-row seat with power recline that can be folded into four different positions with a single push of a button. A contemporary interior is provided with a combination of satin finishes and Elm Burl or Medrona Burl wood on the instrument panel and door trim. The lower trim colour on the instrument panel and door trim is Light Shale while the upper trim colour on these components can be either Medium Slate or Dark Slate. Seating surface choices for LX and Touring include Light Shale, Medium Slate and Dark slate, all with YES Essentials® materials as standard equipment. Unique Royale leather seating surface augmented with Preferred Suede is standard in Grand Voyager Limited in Dark Slate grey. Trends in home lighting were incorporated into the new Chrysler Grand Voyager. An available halo lighting package emits a soft greenish-blue glow along the overhead console but doesn’t interfere with the driver’s vision. Movable pinpoint LED lights are available for all rows of passengers, while convenience lights illuminate areas such as the map pockets and door sills. Other interior enhancements in the all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager interior include second-row power windows, second- and third-row sunshades, a removable and rechargeable flashlight in the rear cargo area and a new D-pillar-mounted power lift gate button. The power sliding doors and lift gate have been improved for faster and quieter operation. Two Powerful and Efficient Powertrains
The 2.8-litre CRD engine has a Variable Geometry Turbocharger that has an electronically controlled actuator as opposed to a pneumatic actuator on other diesel engines. This provides improved cold launch performance, and it also allows the turbocharger to spool up faster from idle, minimising turbo lag and providing good low-end and high-end torque. The 3.8-litre petrol engine is a 60-degree V-6 featuring sequential, multi-port fuel injection, an iron block and aluminium cylinder heads. This durable engine has seen continuous improvement and refinement throughout its lifecycle. With the introduction of the new Grand Voyager, these engines are now matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed transmission’s higher numerical first gear launches the new people mover more briskly than a four- or five-speed transmission. It also provides smaller steps between ratios, which means the engine speed changes less with each shift and makes the gear changes feel smoother and engages a more appropriate ratio for any driving situation. Quieter Ride
A number of the features in the new Chrysler people movers were designed to minimise wind noise. For example, the all-new roof rack crossbows have a more aerodynamic shape, the all-new front doors have a rolled frame design to improve sealing and all-new wiper blades are positioned below the air stream to minimise wind noise. The new people movers also feature larger, aerodynamically shaped mirrors for better viewing and wind flow, as well as thicker side door glass to reduce wind noise. Overall interior quietness on the people movers was improved with acoustic treatments such as additional seals and body fillers, engine box treatments including an under-hood silencer and shock tower silencers, more dash panel PCL coverage and an upgraded inner dash silencer to further reduce engine noise. Thicker carpet underlay was added to reduce road and interior noise levels, while integrated seals with sill cladding also help reduce road noise. More Than 30 New Features
Information and Entertainment
The new dual DVD system can play different media at the same time. With dual A/V jacks and 12-volt power outlet in the C-pillar, gaming systems can plug directly into the people mover to operate. Passengers can play a game system in the second row and watch a movie in the third row. Or passengers can listen to their favourite radio programme through the wireless headphones in one row and watch and listen to a movie with the other set of headphones in another row. The system comes with five wireless, infrared headphones that allow passengers to listen to the same or individual audio sources. Also included are an eight-inch LCD DVD screen in the second and third rows, a single-disc DVD player and a battery-powered infrared two-channel remote control. The DVD-based navigation system includes maps that can be displayed in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional bird’s-eye view, hard-drive maps, hard-drive storage of Points of Interest (POI) such as petrol stations and restaurants. The new-for-2008 premium surround sound system with a subwoofer and 506-watt amplifier is available on the new Chrysler Grand Voyager. The 506-watt amplifier offers 11 channels with 46 watts per channel. The system also includes three instrument panel speakers, two front-door-mounted speakers, two speakers in the rear quarter, two speakers in the D-pillar and an eight-inch, two-channel, dual-voice coil subwoofer. The system also offers Digital Signal Processing (DSP) 7.1 surround sound and is capable of simulating two-channel media into a multi-channel format. The premium sound system offers proper sound imaging and excellent frequency response with smooth delivery. The surround sound provides an enhanced listening and viewing experience of CDs, DVDs, games and other media sources, since the sound output is channelled through the various speakers in the people mover. An interactive digital display located in the people mover instrument cluster conveniently displays information. The system allows the people mover driver to select from a menu of useful information. Owners can personalise their settings, such as having the lights flash and horn 'honk' when locking and unlocking the vehicle using Remote Keyless Entry. This Electronic Vehicle Information Centre also gives owners the ability to scroll through the compass/outside temperature, average fuel economy, distance to empty, trip elapsed time and tyre-pressure monitoring displays. UConnect Hands-free Communication System uses Bluetooth® technology to provide voice-activated wireless communication between the occupants’ compatible mobile phone and the vehicle’s onboard receiver. The hands-free option promotes safety, freedom, value and flexibility. Safety and Security The all-new Chrysler Grand Voyager has a longer list of standard and available safety and security features than any Chrysler people mover in the past. The equipment includes:
