Jeep has achieved its best monthly sales
performance in over five years following the launch of the all-new third
generation Grand Cherokee.
The outstanding result propelled Chrysler and Jeep combined sales to their
biggest monthly volume in over two years and best August performance in eight
years.
With August sales of 686, according to official VFACTS figures, it is only
the second occasion that Chrysler Jeep volumes have reached such high levels
since the Group joined forces with Mercedes-Benz Australia to form
DaimlerChrysler Australia Pacific in 1999.
Jeep sales (515 units) were up a remarkable 68 per cent over August 2004.
Grand Cherokee sales (176 units) were up an impressive 117 per cent following
the addition of the new, highly efficient diesel engine to the all-new third
generation model line-up.
Australia’s continued love affair with the iconic Wrangler model rallied to
the cause with sales of 128 for the month up 103 per cent over August 2004.
Rounding off the strong Jeep result was the mid-sized four-wheel-drive
Cherokee. Sales of 211 units were up 30 per cent for the month.
For the Chrysler marque the bold PT Cruiser continued to drive sales with 83
deliveries for the month taking the year to date performance to a 20 per cent
increase over last year.
Chrysler and Jeep sales are up 6 per cent for the year with sales set for a
significant boost with the much anticipated Chrysler 300C arriving in November,
featuring the fuel saving multi-displacement system on the V8 HEMI engine.
“The new Grand Cherokee and its outstanding range of world class engines is
driving a new wave of interest in our products and lifting showroom traffic in
our dealerships,” said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Jeep
Australia.
“Achieving record sales for both Jeep and the Group is a sign of things to
come. With the new Chrysler 300C around the corner we are set to strengthen
sales even further,” said Jenkins.
