12th October, 2005
An intrepid group of eight passionate Brazilian adventurers
traveled nearly 19,312 kms (12,000 miles), crossing two continents, eleven countries and the
Amazon River to bring a historic Chevrolet Brasil pickup truck to the General
Motors Heritage Centre in Sterling Heights, Michigan (USA).
The donated truck was so important to Brazil's economic development in the
last 50 years that it was given a nameplate the same as the country (Brasil).
After a presentation today, the truck will become part of the GM Heritage Collection
of nearly 700 historically significant vehicles from GM worldwide.
The "Old Way Expedition" was organised as part of GM do Brasil's
80th Anniversary celebrations, but also as a homage to the explorers
of the past.
Brent Dewar, GM North American Vice-President, Marketing and
Advertising, will accept the truck from Old Way Expedition leader, Luiz Cezar
Thomas Fanfa, in front of delegates attending the 2005 World Forum
of Motor Museums.
