Caparo T1 for Melbourne

7th February, 2007

Caparo T1

A British-built sports car that looks and goes like a Formula One car for the road will be an attraction at the Melbourne Motor Show.

The Caparo T1 promises a top speed way beyond 300 km/h with blistering acceleration and so much aerodynamic downforce that it could drive upside down in a tunnel (if it had wheels on the roof).

Developed by engineers behind the iconic McLaren F1, the Caparo T1 sets previously unimagined new standards in road car performance and handling.

The Caparo is designed as a track day racer that doubles as a road-going two-seater sports car using high-tech aerospace and racing technologies for the ultimate in performance and safety.

Everything in the Caparo's specification reads like a top-end race car: it accelerates to 160 km/h in less than five seconds and its 0-100 km/h time is staggering at less than 2.5 seconds.

In less time than many road cars take to reach the speed limit, the Caparo can hit its top speed of more than 320 km/h when its fully adjustable aerodynamics are set for low downforce and maximum speed.

Set it up for more downforce and the T1 can achieve cornering and braking forces of three times the force of gravity, leaving even the hottest current sports cars in its wake.

Its lightweight, mid-mounted V8 engine delivers almost 360 kW at 10,500 rpm, or 1,000 horsepower per ton in old-fashioned terms, contributing to a total weight of just 470 kg.

There is nothing even remotely old-fashioned about its adjustable front and rear wings, ground effect diffuser and adjustable fowler flaps, nor its carbon fibre/aluminium composite body structure.

For all this, the Caparo is designed to be practical, with the body constructed in sections for easy repair and to be super-safe, with a separate front composite crash structure and central safety cell.

Caparo T1 will make its Australian debut at the Motor Show Cavalcade on Wednesday 28th February before moving to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre to take its place at the Show.
