New BMW X5 3.0sd
7th November, 2007 | |||
BMW has announced it will introduce its Twin Turbo 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine to Australia, clothed in the new generation X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. The 200 kW engine delivers 565 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, providing frugal fuel consumption. The X5 3.0sd accelerates to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds. Top speed is 230 km/h (where legal). According to the European test cycle the X5 3.0sd uses 8.8 l/100km. The new highly specified X5 model will be available early in 2008. With its xDrive all-wheel drive system and reduced weight, more of the engine’s power is turned into spirited acceleration. Variable Twin Turbo delivers fuel efficiency The Variable Twin Turbo engine employs turbo charging technology. Two turbochargers of different size are connected in series. Thanks to its low inertia, the smaller charger is capable of developing its full effect at low revs. As engine speed rises, the larger turbocharger gradually takes over. This combination ensures immediate and impressive power delivery, even at high revs. Australian pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date in 2008. “The arrival of the new X5 3.0sd will present BMW customers with an excellent opportunity to obtain a high-performance vehicle that offers the absolute last word in technology, acceleration and agility,” said BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Guenther Seemann. “The icing on the cake is the extremely frugal nature of this engine. The X5 3.0sd removes any compromise between performance, driving enjoyment and fuel consumption." |
