BMW's new 6th generation 3 Series sedan will offer
good value when it goes on sale locally in February 2012 with increased luxury features,
fuel-efficient TwinPower Turbo engines, more advanced technology and lower prices than the outgoing
model.
Headlining a three-model line-up will be the six-cylinder 225 kW/400 Nm TwinPower Turbo 335i
that is priced from $91,900*.
The new mid-range 328i is priced from $66,900*, a full $5,000 less than the 325i it replaces.
Not only is the new model more affordable, it benefits from a new four cylinder TwinPower Turbo
engine that increases power and torque over its predecessor’s 2.5-litre six cylinder engine by 20
kW and 100 Nm to peak outputs of 180 kW/350 Nm. At the same time, the combined fuel consumption has
been reduced to just 6.3 litres/100 km.
The base model in the line-up, the 320d, is priced from $60,900*. The new 135 kW/380 Nm 2.0
litre turbo diesel 320d gains such luxury features as fully electric front seats, keyless
start/stop and front Park Distance Control while improving its already frugal fuel consumption at a
class leading 4.5 litres/100 km.
BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Phil Horton said that as a core model in the BMW range,
this latest 3 Series Sedan sets a new benchmark for value in the premium mid-sized market.

“The new generation 3 Series sedan improves upon BMW’s reputation for sporty driving
dynamics, stylish design, advanced technology and safety, powerful and fuel efficient drivetrains
and luxury features,” Mr Horton said.
“But more than anything, with reduced pricing for the range topping 335i and new 328i and a
huge increase in standard equipment for the 320d, it offers a substantial improvement in value,
both compared with its predecessor and its direct rivals in the market,” he said.
In addition to the lower prices, the new generation BMW 3 Series sedan is lighter, larger in all
dimensions, more spacious and fuel-efficient and features an array of advanced technology.
In a first for the class, BMW has introduced an eight-speed Sports Automatic transmission with
gearshift paddles as standard across the range. Combined with other BMW EfficientDynamics
technologies including the standard Auto Stop/Start, Brake Energy Regeneration and ECO PRO mode for
the new Driving Experience Control, this highly efficient transmission helps ensure each of the new
3 Series sedan models delivers the lowest fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when compared to their
respective direct rivals.
The new Driving Experience Control offers drivers a four-mode adjustment – Comfort, Sport,
Sport+ and ECO PRO - for drivetrain and suspension settings to deliver a range of driving
experiences from a comfortable and highly economical cruise to a sporty dynamic drive for the
enthusiast.
With a 50 mm longer wheelbase, wider track and increase in overall length of 93 mm, the new BMW
3 Series sedan offers more interior space, especially in the rear where improved functionality
includes a 40/20/40 split folding rear seat back with folding rear head restraints. The boot
capacity has also been increased to 480 litres.
Safety aspects for the new BMW 3 Series sedans includes a new Active Protection system that
initiates a range of protective measures if an accident is imminent. In addition to this, all
models are fitted standard with six airbags, and Dynamic Stability Control that includes ABS, Brake
Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control.
Standard comfort and luxury features across the range include dual-zone climate control, cruise
control with brake function, electric front seats with memory function, power-operated windows and
exterior mirrors, automatic lights and windscreen wipers, front and rear Park Distance Control,
Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free mobile phone use with compatible devices, Dakota leather
upholstery (320d, Sensatec man-made leather) and MP3 compatible CD audio systems with Auxiliary and
USB inputs.
As the range topping model, the new BMW 335i features a premium entertainment, communication and
information system that includes, Navigation System Professional - with a 12GB hard disc storage
for audio files - enhanced Bluetooth features such as audio streaming, voice control and internet
functionality and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. Exterior distinctions include
Bi-Xenon headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The new 328i mid-range model also features an extensive array of communications equipment with
standard fitment of the Navigation System Business and a nine-speaker HiFi Loudspeaker System. The
328i and 320d both feature 17-inch alloy wheels.
The value packed 320d also offers plenty of entertainment for drivers with a Radio
BMWProfessional that incorporates a 6.5-inch colour display linked to the iDrive controller, six
speakers and an MP3 compatible CD player.
