In January 2008, the concept car for the Audi A7
Sportback was shown at the Detroit Motor Show. The series production model is now in European
dealerships, having been released last week. It is intended as an aesthetic alternative to a classic
sedan for customers with an affinity for design. The new A7 is affordably priced for customers who
currently drive a model in the range of an A6. The A7 Sportback is initially available with a choice
of three engines.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing, AUDI AG: “With the A7, we
are delivering a real beauty and an entirely new concept that we feel the market has been waiting
for. We expect roughly two-thirds of all buyers worldwide to be new customers, finding their way to
Audi via the A7.” The A7 expands the Ingolstadt car makers’ range in the executive class. “It
is the step-up model for the segment that includes the Audi A6, with which we are enjoying strong
growth rates the world over.” The company expects to sell roughly 200,000 units of the
first-generation A7 Sportback.

The Audi A7 Sportback debuts with three engine versions: two petrol engines and one diesel engine,
all of them powerful and highly efficient V6 units with outputs between 204 and 300 hp. The elegant
coupe is also extremely functional: With a luggage compartment capacity of 1,390 litres (49.09 cubic
ft) with the rear seat folded down, the A7 Sportback is a true alternative to a station wagon for
customers with active lifestyles.
With its broad range of optional equipment, the A7 Sportback offers technical highlights up till
now available only in the brand’s flagship, the Audi A8. One example is the night vision assistant,
a thermal imaging camera that can look up to 300 metres (984.25 ft) ahead. Others include comfort
seats with seat ventilation and massage function, and a WLAN hotspot that allows the passengers to
connect up to eight devices – from a laptop to an Apple iPad – to the Internet simultaneously. The MMI
navigation plus makes use of a fast UMTS connection to download three-dimensional satellite and aerial
photographs from Google Earth – a unique technical selling point of the system from Ingolstadt. The
latest safety systems from the A8 can also be ordered for the A7 Sportback, including the Audi active
lane assist. If the vehicle leaves the lane, the system intervenes in the power steering and returns
the vehicle to the lane autonomously.
Making its debut in the A7 Sportback is the Audi head-up display, which projects the most important
data onto the windshield in the form of symbols and digits.
