Audi Australia will officially launch its brand new A6 executive saloon at this year’s Australian International Motor Show.

Setting a new benchmark in the executive class, the new A6 will follow in the successful footsteps of the new Audi A8, redefining the brand’s credentials in this segment thanks to outstanding driving dynamics, the latest technology and superior levels of comfort.

The new A6 is the first vehicle in the company’s Australian model range to introduce the striking single frame grille. The new Audi A3 Sportback and A4, arriving in 2005, will also feature this design hallmark.

The all new Audi A6 offers the most dynamic and progressive engine range in its competitive set. A choice of dynamic V6 and V8 petrol engines, in conjunction with the most powerful V6 turbo-charged diesel engine in its class, the all new Audi A6 is no stranger to sports performance motoring.

At launch, Audi Australia will introduce the following A6 variants;

Audi A6 2.4 multitronic
Audi A6 3.0 multitronic
Audi A6 3.0 quattro tiptronic
Audi A6 3.0 TDI quattro tiptronic
Audi A6 4.2 quattro tiptronic

The powerful 4.2-litre V8 variant, with chain drive technology, first made its Australian debut in the Audi S4. With 246 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque, the new Audi A6 4.2 quattro is quicker than the previous Audi S6, reaching 100 km/h in a mere 6.1 seconds.

The sporty 3.0-litre model boasts 160 kW and 290 Nm from its all-alloy V6 engine. Available with Audi’s multitronic® transmission for front-wheel drive, and six-speed tiptronic for quattro® all-wheel drive, the new Audi A6 with the 3.0-litre V6 powerplant offers a high level of driving dynamism and refinement.

This engine also incorporates Audi five-valves-per-cylinder technology for low fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

The A6 3.0-litre multitronic reaches 0-100 km/h in 7.9 sec, whilst the 3.0-litre quattro tiptronic reaches 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.

The new generation 2.4-litre V6 will be introduced with Audi's new V-configuration. This engine incorporates the new chain-drive technology from the 4.2-litre V8. The engine's silky-smooth refinement is free of vibration, as is the 3.0-litre V6, thanks to the new balance shaft module which is able to eliminate any vibrations.

The 2.4-litre V6 is tuned to a maximum output of 130 kW at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm between 3000 and 5000 rpm. The flat torque curve offers exceptional dynamism and is reminiscent of that of an Audi turbocharged motor. The 2.4-litre V6 accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, with its multitronic® transmission and front wheel drive layout.

Audi’s first A6 TDI in Australia is the 3.0-litre V6 TDI quattro tiptronic. Also part of Audi’s new V-configuration family, this TDI engine incorporates chain drive technology. With 165 kW and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, the A6 3.0-litre TDI quattro tiptronic, with its state-of-the-art piezo injector system, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds which is quicker than the previous A6 2.7T quattro tiptronic model.

The exterior design of the new Audi A6 creates a powerful and progressive statement. The wrap-around rear-light assembly fitted lower down in the body, combined with the visible exhaust tailpipes and aluminium trim strip form a powerful and striking connection with the new design theme. The upper edge of the boot lid is contoured to provide a powerful and dynamic spoiler for additional down force at high speeds.

The interior concept also clearly heralds an entirely new generation of design. The central instrument panel and upper section of the centre console sweep around the driver like a sports cockpit. The newly designed, drop-shaped surrounds for the instrument dials highlight the highest level of attention to detail and sportiness. The new generation of multi-function steering wheels featured in the all new Audi A6 also carry the single frame grille design.

The all new Audi A6 incorporates an electromechanical parking brake, giving the designers greater freedom and extra space. This allows Audi’s intuitive Multi Media Interface (MMI) control terminal, with 7-inch colour monitor to be located right behind the gearshift lever. In the perfect position for the driver's line of vision, the standard MMI display is integrated in the dashboard.
