Aston Martin was awarded the 2006 FIA GT1 Manufacturers Cup while Works team, Aston Martin Racing BMS secured second place in the Teams championship at the penultimate round of the FIA GT Championship at Adria, Italy on Sunday 15th October. The British manufacturer Aston Martin is represented in the FIA GT Championship by three European teams. Aston Martin Racing BMS competes with two DBR9s and customer teams Phoenix Racing and RaceAlliance each compete with one DBR9. In Adria, fourth and fifth places for the Aston Martin Racing BMS team, combined with consistent results throughout the year including a hard fought second place for Phoenix Racing at the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa and Race Alliance’s first Aston Martin win in Mugello, allowed Aston Martin to claim the 2006 GT1 Manufacturers Cup. Aston Martin made its FIA GT debut in 2005 at Silverstone with a two-car team entered by Aston Martin Racing. The brace of DBR9s performed perfectly, qualifying first and second before taking the top two podium places in front of the manufacturers home crowd and winning the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy. This race marked the DBR9’s first European victory although as a factory entry the team was not eligible to score points. The first points for the DBR9 came in Bahrain 2005, when Christophe Bouchut and Antonio Garcia were victorious in the DBR9. The final round of the FIA GT Championship takes place on Saturday 18th November in Dubai. |
