The all-new Alfa Romeo 1750 TBi engine is now available in the
159 Sportwagon to special order, complimenting the 2.4 litre JTB Turbo Diesel and 3.2 V6 JTS engines which are
now available as standard with automatic gearboxes and, with the 1750 TBi and the 2.4 JTB, available with a
choice of standard or sporting Ti trim and equipment levels, while the range topping 3.2 V6 JTS is fitted as
standard with the Ti equipment package.
Alfa Romeo has chosen to make the 1750 TBi engine available to special order in the 159 Sportwagon for
customers who wish to have the dynamic driving involvement of a manual gearbox. Its position as a special order
only variant is indicative of the fact that the majority of Australian buyers select the 2.4 litre JTB engine
and six speed automatic gearbox with its blend of performance and economy as a partner to the practicality of
the 159 Sportwagon.
The Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon builds on the reputation of its predecessor with styling that is easily a
match for its sedan counterpart, while also offering the versatility of a fifth door, the flexibility of rear
seats that fold down in a variety of combinations and an interior that has been designed with a host of
features to maximise ease of use.
As per the previous Sportwagon, the fifth door on the 159 Sportwagon opens into the roof. This means that
the rear door can offer a generous opening, while at the same time allow an almost Coupe-like flowing
conclusion to the styling of the Sportwagon that starts so elegantly at the front of the car.
The sporting lines and compact dimensions of the new Alfa 159 Sportwagon belie a spacious, flexible
interior. The new car has a wheelbase 105 mm longer than its predecessor, significantly improving both front
and rear passenger legroom. Moreover, despite being lower than the Alfa 156 Sportwagon, the new Alfa Romeo
offers improved front and rear door access and an increase in interior headroom, particularly in the rear.
The Alfa 159 Sportwagon offers 445 litres of loadspace below the retractable luggage cover. The 60:40
split/folding rear seat features an integral armrest and ski hatch, and allows for the rapid expansion of the
luggage compartment into a practical load platform offering 850 litres of stowage below the window line, and
an impressive 1,235 litres overall.
Fitted with the new 1750 TBi engine matched to a manual six speed gearbox, the Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon
1750 TBi has a top speed of 233 km/h and the dash to 100 km/h is covered in 7.9 seconds, performance that
meets the requirements of a sporting Alfa Romeo, yet, it offers a fuel consumption of 8.3 litres on the
combined cycle test.
Topping the range, the 3.2 litre V6 JTS engine provides 191 kW and the ability, aided by its standard
automatic gearbox and four wheel drive system, to despatch 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and proceed on to a top
speed of 242 km/h (where legal).
Since its launch, the most popular version of the Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon has been the 2.4 JTB version
with its 20 valve five cylinder Turbo Diesel engine delivering 147 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This combination
launches this variant of the 159 Sportwagon to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, yet its combined fuel consumption
figure is 8.0 litre/100 km.
The standard 159 equipment package includes a leather trimmed interior, which includes the steering wheel
and gear knob. Safety technology includes seven airbags, Cruise Control, fog lights, ABS with EBA and HBA,
VDC with hill holder and sensors for the automatic wipers and lights. Convenience features include
electrically heated and operated mirrors, remote central locking, electric windows and rear parking sensors.
Comfort is ensured with Dual zone climate control air conditioning, while the standard Blue&me
infotainment system and its voice activated Bluetooth system combines safety and convenience.
With such performance on hand and the use of a classic Alfa Romeo engine name, derived from the 1968
Alfa Romeo 1750 Berlina, it is highly appropriate that for the Australian market the Alfa Romeo 159 1750
TBi carries another historic badge, Ti, and the comprehensive performance-orientated equipment pack it
provides.
For more than 50 years the most sought-after Alfa Romeo models have been those that have worn the ‘Ti’
badge which indicates an Alfa Romeo with an even more sharply defined sporting edge. First seen in 1950,
the Ti badge, which stands for Tourismo International, has been used to denote an Alfa Romeo version that
has been equipped to meet the needs and desires of driving enthusiasts to produce a car that offers more
driving excitement and a more sports-orientated image.

The most significant under the 'skin' change is the fitting of sports suspension that lowers the 159 by
20 mm and which provides the 159 with a sharper turn-in response from the steering and less body roll, but
without the harsh ride that afflicts some sports suspension systems. This more able chassis is further
enhanced by the standard of 19 inch alloy wheels with 235/40 x 19 low profile tyres to provide additional
roadholding performance. So that the 159 Ti stops as well as it goes, Brembo brakes are standard and they
are painted in red to highlight their presence and performance.
To further enhance the hunkered down stance of the 159 Ti provided by the sports suspension, the new
model is fitted with subtle yet effective body kit, with burnished aluminium finish door mirrors completing
the exterior transformation into a 159 Ti.
The inside of the 159 is transformed by the Ti package into a driver focused cockpit of black leather
and dark finish materials highlighted by red stitching for the leather and red highlights for the
instruments. The sports seats, which are electrically operated and heated, are upholstered in hand-crafted
soft Italian leather with the Alfa Romeo logo stitched in red on both the front and rear seats. The same
leather and red stitching is used on the steering wheel and the six speed manual gearbox’s gear lever.
The dashboard is trimmed in a unique burnished aluminium that has been darkened so as to show off the
red-ringed instruments that are unique to the Alfa Romeo 159 Ti. Aluminium is further used for the drilled
sports pedals – an essential icon of Italian sports cars – and the unique Alfa Romeo 159 Ti door sill trim
strips which, like the exterior, carry the Ti insignia.
Available only to special order, the 159 Sportwagon 1750 TBi has a manufacturer's list price* excluding
statutory charges and dealer delivery fees of $51,990* in standard form and $56,480* with the Ti package.
