Motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss will be a guest judge at Motorclassica, the Australian International Concours d’Elegance & Classic Motor Show.

Sir Stirling enjoyed one of his many great racing successes at Melbourne in 1956 when he won the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in a Maserati 250F.

Almost 54 years later, and a sprightly octogenarian, the man often called "the greatest driver never to win the World Championship" will return to the city of his early triumph.

His AGP win in December 1956 was little more than a year after his very first Formula One win, driving a Mercedes-Benz W196 at the 1955 British Grand Prix.

Motorclassica event director Paul Mathers said Sir Stirling’s presence would be one of the absolute highlights of the event.

“There is nobody who represents all that is great in motoring better than Sir Stirling,” he said.

“I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was at Pebble Beach last year, and his friendly and gracious demeanor is overwhelming for a man of such towering achievements.”

Motorclassica is a nine-day celebration of classic motoring with both static and on-road displays, inspired by overseas events such as Pebble Beach, Retromobile and Villa d’Este.

It begins with the Tour Australis rally from 16th to 21st October and culminates in the concours and classic motor show in the Royal Exhibition Building from 22nd to 24th October and the free Picnic With The Classics on 23rd and 24th October.
