Woodcote Trophy Heads for Monza
13th November, 2007 | |||
Motor Racing Legends has been invited by the organisers of the Coppa Intereuropa, the highly prestigious historic race meeting at Monza, to run one of the feature races at next year’s event (6th-8th June 2008). The invitation comes as a result of the huge success of the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy for pre-1956 sports cars, which Motor Racing Legends launched in 2006. “It is a great honour to be asked to participate in Italy’s greatest historic race meeting,” says Motor Racing Legends Chairman, Duncan Wiltshire. “Our existing Woodcote Trophy competitors are sure to be thrilled at the thought of racing on the fabulous circuit at Monza. We also hope that many Italian racers who own genuine fifties sports cars running to the correct period specification will join us for what promises to be a highlight of 2008.” This round of the Woodcote Trophy will be called the Coppa Supercortemaggiore, in recognition of the Supercortemaggiore races held at Monza in 1954, 1955 and 1956. While the Woodcote Trophy is for sports cars built up to the end of 1955, the race at Monza will additionally include a full ‘Supercortemaggiore’ class for sports-racers built in 1956. The Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy is run exclusively at Europe’s top historic events: in 2007, at the Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or of Dijon, the Silverstone Classic and the Spa Six-Hour meeting. It is for genuine pre-1956 sports cars running strictly to period specification and attracts an extremely wide range of top historic race cars – from Jaguar D-type and C-type to Maserati 300S and Ferrari 750 Monza, plus Allards, Aston Martin DB2 and DB3S, Gordini 23S, Osca MT4 and many more. |
