EDAG Show Stopper
26th February, 2007 | ||||
International engineering and design specialist EDAG will show visitors to
the Melbourne Motor Show its "EDAG SUV" show car. Based on the Porsche Cayenne, the EDAG SUV makes a desirable car even
more eye-catching with a dramatic lowering and re-shaping of the
high-performance vehicle, itself based on the over-achieving Volkswagen Touareg. Styling and body fabrication for the vehicle was by EDAG Engineering and
Design AG. It has been brought to Melbourne by EDAG Australia, which provides
engineering and design services to car companies. The most startling features of the EDAG SUV are a roofline lowered (or
chopped) by 70 mm, flared guards and, as displayed in Melbourne, a matt red paint finish. Massive wedge-shaped side skirts visually emphasise the SUV's urge to storm
forward and the front bumper features large air inlets for the
intercoolers of the 447 kilowatt turbocharged engine. In classic show-car style, the vehicle boasts huge 23-inch wheels with ultra-low
profile 315/25 tyres. Inside, each of the four occupants has a separate sport seat, separated by a
futuristic, full-length centre console that houses an on-board infotainment
system with Blaupunkt monitors, DVD player and Sony PS2 game console. EDAG was founded in Germany in 1969 by Horst Eckard under
the name Eckard Design and in 1992 became an incorporated company under the
name of EDAG Engineering and Design AG. EDAG Australia is a wholly owned
subsidiary of EDAG Engneering and Design AG. |
