With a population of over 300 million people to support
many and varied interests, the good old boys in the USA really know how to gather cars together.
This week-end, for example, over 11,000 street rods are expected at the 42nd Annual Street Rod
Nationals Plus in Louisville, Kentucky.
The event is being conducted by the National Street Rod Association (headquartered in Memphis,
Tennessee), from 4th to 7th August 2011 with the venue being the Kentucky Exposition Centre. This is
the 17th time the event has been held in Louisville.
It is not just cars as this is a major event. There is entertainment on the Friday and Saturday
nights and a gospel service on the Sunday conducted by the NSRA's chaplain Jim Rowlett. Performers
include Jolly Demis (with song and humour), Bruce In The USA (claimed to be the world's #1 Tribute Band
to the E Street Band), Creedence Again (the premier CCR & John Fogerty tribute band in the world),
recording artist Shannon Bunch and Praise Incorporated (with their musical excellence).
The event also features seminars (this year focusing on bumper preparation, air conditioning,
relays, drive shafts, air suspension, fuel injection, car care, and new products). Other aspects
include children's activities, daily swap meets, opportunities to meet a number of professionals who
have built some highly regarded vehicles and, to finalise the event, an award ceremony.

But there is more ..... over 350 stalls are presented by automotive product suppliers! This type of
event requires space and that is provided in 300 acres outdoors and 750,000 square feet of
air-conditioned comfort indoors!
Just what is a street rod? As defined by the NSRA, a street rod is a vehicle manufactured prior to
1949 that has been modified for travel on today’s highways.
This year's event will also include muscle cars; that's those factory produced high horsepower cars
from the 60s and 70s (typically a compact or mid-size car with a bigger engine from the brand's larger
cars, later these engines came with higher output to ensure extraordinary performance for their day).
Additionally, classic cars of the 50s will be present this year.
There are problems that exist with this type of event ... how do you check-out all the cars?
Next year's event is scheduled for 2nd-5th August, 2012, and it will again be held in Louisville,
Kentucky (USA).
